Ondo Election: APC Candidate Promises Continuity If Elected

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State, Mr Rotumi Akeredolu, says he will continue with any lofty programme laid down by the Mimiko administration if elected into office as the new governor.
Mr ‎Akeredolu made the pledge while addressing reporters in Oba-Ile, Akure, where he held campaign ahead of the November 26 governorship election.
Giving his opinion on the introduction of an identity card, Card Igbeayo, by the current administration, Akeredolu said he does not believe in it.
“What I believe is that if the Card Igbeayo is an identity of the Ondo State indigenes, so be it, but if it becomes a problem when deployed to other use and detrimental to the people, we will stop it.
“For instance, if you insist that without producing it your child will not go to school or you are charging them fees on it, I think the government should be able to produce it free of charge or at a reasonable price.
“So if we decide to continue with it we will ensure that the citizenry will get it at almost free of charge and will not be deployed to other uses that are not relevant,” he explained.
On his campaign so far, the APC candidate said he was delighted to see what he called an electrifying response.
“I was moved to tears that this people are yearning for change. The people seriously have love for APC and I’m so convinced that we are on our way to victory.
“We are determined. We will not allow anyone to rig this election, that’s all I know,” he said.
Mr Akeredolu further stated that “the main issues in the election for our people is that ‎they had a government for eight years that has not had very serious impact on their lives. So they are clamouring for a change. They don’t want to have a government that is linked to the one that is about to leave now. This people that I know, want a change, a true change and the only party that offers them that change they desire is the APC.
“Our people have suffered more than enough in Ondo State. With the money we have, we have not felt the impact of government. We have not had good governance as is expected of us so the people need APC”.
On how he would create more jobs for the unemployed in Ondo State, he said: “Everything I am bringing is new. I have said I want to create jobs for the youths. This time not white collar jobs but we are going to use agriculture, entrepreneurship and industrialisation.
“We do not have any economic activities in Ondo State. No industry is functioning. We want to attract industries into the state to boost economic activities and Internally Generated Revenue. We do not have to go begging Abuja. Once we can make our youths buy into agriculture, we will go into it in a different way and this state will move forward”.
On other sectors that he would be looking to reform, he said that healthcare and education would be addressed.
The APC governorship candidate also visited Ogbese, Ilu-Oba, Oba-Ile, Igoba, Ita Ogbolu and Iju towns all in Akure ‎North Local Government Area, where he paid homage to all the traditional rulers and addressed the people on the programme of the APC if elected into office come November 26.
